South Head Roughwater (NSW)
The South Head Roughwater is one of Sydney’s premier marathon ocean swims, featuring a ~10km point-to-point course from Bondi Beach to Watsons Bay. The route follows the exposed coastline around South Head before entering Sydney Harbour for a unique harbour finish, combining open ocean swimming with an iconic urban backdrop.
Recognised as the pinnacle endurance swim on the Sydney ocean calendar, the event is a true test of navigation, ocean awareness and resilience. Swimmers are exposed to swell, currents and changing conditions along a largely unprotected coastline, making it a significant step up from typical ocean swims and a key benchmark for those progressing toward longer marathon distances.
